Hello, everyone. It’s been six months since I’ve been in Bulgaria with the Smokinya Foundation, so it’s time for me to give you a quick recap of these last six months.
By the way, I’m Gaspard, 19 years old, from France.
First and foremost, I want to say that I’m grateful for everything Smokinya has given me and for all the opportunities that have come my way—and will continue to come my way—thanks to Smokinya
I’ve met some truly incredible people, formed very strong friendships, and experienced amazing moments. I’m thinking in particular of the countless sunsets—which were truly magnificent—that I was able to share with people who were just as wonderful, but also of the wide variety of tasks I was able to accomplish, such as building two roofs. Those were among the most frustrating things I’ve ever had to do, but I have to say that the result is worth it when you look at the re -barn—knowing that these roofs were made by my own hands brings me great satisfaction.
Smokinya gave me the opportunity to travel, meet people, and develop my management skills. I still need to practice, but I think we’re on the right track. I think I’m about twice as good now as I was six months ago—my English has improved a lot, I’m way more muscular, and mentally, I’m not sure, but at least I’ve got muscles, and that’s all that matters, right? 🙂

Right now it’s a little complicated—both camps are over, Samuel’s gone, and I find myself alone in the house with Javi and Jan. I miss Sam—it’s only been 8 days since he left, and yet everything has changed. Living together is complicated; with Sam it was so easy—we didn’t have any problems—and now I feel like it’s a lot of changes all at once. I can’t seem to adjust to the present, and I don’t have my emotional support—which is Sam. I have nothing to say to Jan and Javi; I don’t know them well enough. I know I just need time to open up to people—it’s just not in my nature—but I thought I’d gotten better at it. Apparently not. That’s another area for improvement: socializing.
Actually, I feel like for the past month I’ve been losing my footing—preparing for camp and being a team member. I’ve given it my all; I’ve given a little too much. It’ not a bad thing, but I just need to rest, slow down, and refocus on myself. But I feel like I still have to be strong, even though all I want is to rest. The positive thing is that now we’re getting back to a normal routine with normal tasks—no team of 15, just me and that’s it. I’m so happy
If I had to summarize my experience in chapters, the first month would be “What am I doing here?”; the second, “What a joy”; the third, “Life could be a dream”; the fourth, “Lots of new encounters”; the fifth, “Vacation with Mom and Dju”; and the last one, “I’m tired.”
i love you all bisous
