Wild Vibes – A rural retreat to reset and thrive | Weekly Recap 66

Welcome to this recap of some of the activities done by smokinya foundation this past week, we hope you enjoy.

The start of the week was intense as we came back to the normal schedule after the youth village organized by the kolective 15/29 (you can read our insights here). Our first task was to carry ten cubic meters of wood as preparation for the cold that is approaching Bulgarian mountains. An arduous task but took us less time than expected and we were doing exercise so we would mark it as a very worthwhile task. The rest of the day we invested in organizing and onboarding of the two new volunteers that incorporated to the volunteers house.

The second day of the week we finished tidying up the materials that we used for the youth village and focused on computer work for social media and future projects. We also started collecting the grapes of our garden and brainstorming what we could do with all of them. Our first truly “normal” day in a long time.

The next day was special, it was Wednesday but it felt like a Friday since some of us were going to take Thursday and Friday off for our work during the last weekend. We decided what to do with the grapes and the conclusion was to try our luck with wine (for personal use). Then continued the day with more computer work and finalising the day with some helping hands to support people in the village.

On Thursday some of us focused on resting while others continued with some essential computer work for future projects. With some teamwork on the wine. The same happened on Friday with the difference that in the night we approached Karlovo to witness some traditional Bulgarian dances. It was an amazing experience we really liked. On Saturday we went to Karlovo again to attend the rock concerts organized by the city the ambience was really lively and we did some headbanging along the way.

Finally the week finished on Sunday, here in Mrachenik a special mass was held. As some of you might know a little over a week ago there was a little fire near the town, there were no tragedies to record. So this mass was an expression of gratitude and a wish for nothing similar to happen in the future. The people prepared lamb soup and brought some sweets and shared it with everyone in the village. A beautiful expression of care and solidarity in the village and no better way to put an end to this week in Mrachenik.

We hope you enjoyed reading as much as we did living it.
