What the what!!!! Introduction post!?!
Hello… I’m Roni, a new volunteer here in Mrachenik Bulgaria! I’m 19 years old, and I just graduated from Sibelius-Lukio Upper Secondary School last December. I managed to make my way here from Helsinki last Thursday, but the trip did NOT go as planned. I missed my connecting flight to Sofia from Berlin, and had to stay at the airport for an extra 9 hours. When I finally made it to Sofia it was almost 5am… but I still made it to my hotel’s free breakfast!
Either way, about myself… I sing! (And do general music things.) I started 3.5 years ago and have been obsessing over it since… I do the usual stuff too, but my focus is more on the more uncommon noises, so beatboxing and metal screams, for example (yeah, Finnish person does metal stuff who would’ve thought).

I’m a big philosophy fan as well! Practical philosophy is what I think I’ll go study in university, after I’ve gotten out of here first.. Stoicism shaped a lot of my life a few years ago, but I’ve since moved onto other things, mainly Nietzsche and Camus and the rest of the Nihilist-Existentialist gang. Maybe this more stripped down village lifestyle will mark the return to my roots, who knows.
Lots of volunteers have had some kind of goal or project in mind when coming here, but I honestly don’t really know what I want out of this :d other than to be useful to others, obviously. A few years ago I had the idea that it’d be cool to live in another country for a few months after graduating, and so now I’m doing that!! I’m going to try to keep practicing vocals while I’m here, as well as read a lot. It would be lovely to grow as a person too, but that kind of happens on its own, or doesn’t happen, so we’ll just have to wait and see!
If you’re planning to come volunteer, watch out: the Balkan in you grows fast in here… Here’s a picture of what I looked like before coming to Mrachenik:

And here’s me after UNDER A WEEK in this place

This is not okay…
Anyway, that’s me. See you!
