We are happy to announce our new long-term ESC volunteering project Bright Lands in Mrachenik!
Smokinya Foundation is a youth focused organisation in Bulgaria dedicated to personal growth, youth education and social change, through volunteering, training and community initiatives. Our vision: contributing to a world that works for everyone, out of love, care and cooperation. Since 2023, we’ve hosted over 350 people in our rural venue Mrachenik.
Your profile
– 18 to 30 years old
– Registered in the EYP
– EU residents / citizens
– ‘Can-do’ attitude, coachable
– Willing to learn, solution-oriented
– Open to adventures and
challenges
– Wants to create impact
– OK with rural life, bugs and

– Interested in minimalism
– Handy skills are a plus
– Speaking basic English
– Being ok with all previous slides
Your activities
1️⃣ RURAL WORK (60%)
Physical and hands-on
Manual Landscaping (70%): weeding, cleaning dump yards, clearing forest paths, cleaning rivers.
Hands-on work (20%) removing plaster, digging, painting walls etc.
Local Community (10%): help elderly locals, events for locals, and local reach.
2️⃣ LAPTOP WORK (40%)
Sitting, thinking, office style
Promoting the ESC and Erasmus+
Email project coordination
Social media content making and publishing
Visual designs and photo / video editing
WordPress website publishing

3️⃣ 2027 Summer Activities Assistance
In 2027 Smokinya will host a number of projects and activities, and you will be an important part of the TEAM – helping with kitchen, logistics, and supporting international youth!
What you’ll learn
- To follow well established system for high quality international youth work
- Practical skills: time / task management, setting goals and standards, creating results.
- Reflection and digital detox.
- Basic Project coordination, social media etc.
- Basic tech skills Google Suite, Slack, Canva, WordPress.
- Teamwork, leadership, intercultural learning, building confidence, and resilience.
Our tools to achieve the learning goals
Non-formal education, peer-learning, mentoring and coaching, guidance and working with real life case studies and challenges. All recognised with a YouthPass certificate.
Those interested and capable to handle complexity and accountability, may be delegated suitable tasks.
Arrangements
Shopping at Karlovo (25 km away):
- by bus on Wednesdays
- or by car once per week
- essentials are available in Mrachenik, and Domlyan (8 km away)
Limited public transport to Mrachenik – only on Wednesdays.
The next village (8 km away) has regular daily buses (15-30 min by bike).
Smokinya Foundation’s bikes are available.

The house has 3 bedrooms with 2 beds each. Matresses, pillows, blankets, linens are provided.
All the basics are available: drinkable water, electricity, wifi, shower and toilets.
The house is heated with wood furnaces, chopping the fire wood is on you. 🙂
