Hello!
For six months, two young volunteers will live in a remote village working to rebuild a school and learn more about and connect with the rural life and people. The project, called Rural Future, is co-funded by the EU through the ESC programme.
🛠️ If you like what you see, you can apply here.
ℹ️ You can get to know the project better here.
During the Rural Future Project, we are going to cover the weekly progress through the so-called “Weekly Recaps”. Here we will give a short overview of what is going on in this little village called Mrachenik and will report on our experiences.
Our Mrachenik volunteer team is made up of two people: Léo and Carlos. They all have different backgrounds and their ages span from 21-27 years.
Hello again from Mrachenik! 👋
We are back one more week to show the world what we did last week in the Rural Future project.
The week started on Monday with an emergency call: the front door of a house in the village had collapsed, blocking the street where the volunteers live. Cars couldn’t pass by because the road was full of debris.
Thankfully, Smokinya volunteers living in Mrachenik replied to the call and worked fast to unblock the road, as you can check by yourself in the following picture:

But that’s not all! On Thursday, they were asked for help by a villager and friend of Smokinya. This time, the task was to store big, heavy logs that had just been dropped on his front door for the winter heating. It was a hard job, but the guys fulfilled it successfully:

As you can see, Smokinya volunteers not only serve the foundation, but also the entire village. They try to strengthen the links with the local community, not only helping, but also organizing social events like the Movie Night they will host later this week. You are also welcome!
But, coming back to the preparations for the Bright Future camps that will start in less than a month, there are still some tasks to do in the school. For example, they cleaned the main stairs of the school, which were full of weeds after the wet season:

Also, the Bright Future training center needs some reparations in the roof. Because of this, a heavy crane will work on it anytime soon. That’s why Léo and Carlos opened a way for the truck, removing any obstacles around, such as this big wooden pile:

And, last but not least, the week finished with some logistics! As part of the preparations for the roof reparations, the guys took a bunch of roof tiles that were laying here and there and arranged them in pallets according to their typology and conservation state. Now, they are ready to be moved wherever they are needed:

That’s all for the week! Thank you for reading, and see you next week!
