Hello everyone!
This is the first of a series of updates where we will keep you udpated about Taste Away, one of the youth exchanges that Smokinya Foundation is hosting this year in the village of Mrachenik.
Participants arrived to the village on Wednesday, 30th April. We have to say, it was a very exciting moment for everyone. On one side, participants were exhausted after hours of journey (some of them coming from Estonia, 4 hours away by plane!), but still excited because they finally made it to our village.
But also, it was an exciting moment for the villagers. Considering Mrachenik population is around 60 people, they don’t see everyday a group of 30 joyful European youngsters arriving to our beautiful village. Even more, if you take into account the faces of admiration for the village that participants brought when they got off the bus, it’s still more rewarding for villagers.
And, of course, Smokinya foundation team was grateful with Top Rent a Car. One of the trains got delayed, making participants lose the only bus to Mrachenik. But, thanks to our logistical partner, we could pick them up from the station and our exchange started right on time!
After this exciting arrival, participants unpacked their luggage and received the basic information: accommodation, dining hours and basic rules. The real action started the next morning, when they woke up to a small village tour. They were amazed with the outstanding natural surroundings, and especially with the horses that we came across at one point.

Then, the day went on with a introduction about Smokinya Foundation, which was followed by the ‘get 2 know’ games. They are ice-breaker games especially designed for participants to lose their shyness and start meeting each other more in depth. It was a fun outdoors afternoon for participants:
The day would end with an introduction to Youthpass and its eight-competence model, and then some free time until the closing of the day: the disconnection ceremony. Here, participants will give away their phones to experience digital disconnection, one of the main goals of this project.
