Hello!
For six months, four young volunteers will live in a remote village working to rebuild a school and learn more about and connect with the rural life and people. The project, called Rural Future, is co-funded by the EU through the ESC programme.
Here you can get to know the project better:
Rural Future – Nature, Community, Education – ESC Volunteering Project
During the Rural Future Project, we are going to cover the weekly progress through the so-called “Weekly Recaps”. Here we will give a short overview of what is going on in this little village called Mrachenik and will report on our experiences.
Our Mrachenik volunteer team is made up of four people: Leó, Mirthe, Carlos and Hendrik. We all have different backgrounds and our ages span from 21-27 years.
As part of Smokinya Foundation, we work with the Plovdiv Smokinya team as well.
You will see mixing and exchange between the two teams during our stay in Bulgaria.
This week, we welcomed in the Bright Future Training Center of Mrachenik the Taste Away Youth Exchange !
30 youth people came from Estonia, Romania, Greece, Spain, Italy and Bulgaria.
The exchange was about sharing culture around food. During these 10 days Carlos and Léo were part of the facilitation team to support Loïs and Meri all along this intense project.

It was an meaningful opportunity for them to experience another pace of living and working in Mrachenik. By supporting, they learned learn about the organisation and facilitation of this kind of project.
In the meanwhile, Mirthe and Yana kept working around the village and in the garden.

The 7th of May they organized and facilitated a gardening workshop ! An interesting experience for the participants of Taste Away, proof to be the field of potatoes they planted in only one day !

Both the smokinya team and the locals were happy to welcome the participants in Mrachenik, so thank to them for the dedication and the sparkles of life they brang to the village during these 10 days !
Stay tuned for next week!
