здравей! My name is Carlos, a 27-year-old man from Valencia (Spain).
At the end of 2024, I was in a situation of change in my life. After 3 years of experience in my professional field, engineering, I decided to take a break and do something different. The goal of this period was clear: personal growth, personal development and learning. So, for that learning to happen, I decided to go where learning begins: out of your comfort zone.
That’s when I first read about Smokinya, Mrachenik and the Rural Future project. I really liked their offer, because it was not only about making an impact on the community, but about facing a great deal of new challenges. In fact, Rural Future is about moving from the city to a tiny village and replacing the laptop with the shovel.
So that’s how I ended up in Mrachenik. And, so far, I can say I have found the challenges I was looking for. Every day, you learn something new: from setting up the fire in the stove to hitchhiking, but also buying in the only shop of the village – of course, no English is spoken there!
So, at this point, I am still right at the beginning of this adventure, so I hope to update you about how it’s going in the future. So far, I can say I am excited about what’s to come, especially about ‘Bright Future’, the work camp we will host in summer. Also, I try to keep realistic expectations about this experience: learning and growth are rewarding, but it’s not always easy. In other words, they come with struggle and tough situations, but that is also part of the experience.
