Overall Camp Review

After three weeks of hard work and building connections, the “B.R.I.G.H.T. Future” project was closed once again and the camp finished for the third time now.

This time we had 45 people from 18 different countries from Europe and beyond, that helped us visualise our vision of creating a Youth Centre in the rural village of Mrachenik. And once again we came one step closer to our end goal of bringing life back to this small village, thanks to our volunteers!
However our focus wasn´t only the rennovation of the school, but also on the journey of our participants. Our goal regarding our participants was, to give them the space to reflect on themselves. What they want to take out of this experience and what they want to leave behind.

The first week started with the onboarding. The team and the participants got to know each other better to create a good starting ground for the following weeks.
After the onboarding in the first days, the work started. Each team member was assigned to one area, creating action teams. These areas were construction, wood work, gardening, village, atmosphere/cleaning, media, kitchen and festival. Every morning the team members explained their tasks and the participants were able to choose their group for the day. Each task and every day were different, that way the participants were able to gain experiences and skills in various fields.

During our stay we were able to complete multiple projects. Each action team contributed to our end goal with their work.

The wood working team built a bookshelve and multiple benches for our guests for the festival. They also cut wood, that we could use for our nightly bonfires.

The village team worked around the village. They helped neighbours with their gardening and cleaned up the streets. Additionally they also upgraded the direction sign for our camp to a bigger version!

The construction team was able to remove some of the brickle wall and ceiling that would have been unsafe.

The atmosphere team not only cleaned the school, but also painted the front door of the school in a new fun colour.

The media team documented our work and followed the different teams during the day. Thanks to them we are able to show our work to the rest of the world. They also created a slideshow about the camp and the group, that we watched on the last day of our stay.

The gardening team removed the wood and unwanted greens around the school and they took care of our little vegetable garden, that the kitchen team used for our meals.

The kitchen team helped our cooks with the prepearing of our meals everyday. They washed the dishes, cut vegetables, and served our lunches.

And lastly the festival team planned an amazing festival that took place on the last weekend of our camp. This years festival, took place during the whole day. Each hour a different activity was planned, like face painting, bulgarian folk dances, yoga, karaoke and much more. The participants were able to enjoy their last weekend together as a group and connect with the guests.

We want to thank every person that made this amazing project possible! Thank you to the participants and the team for their time and effort and thank you to the European Union and all our Supporters that gave us the needed financial support.
