The final days of the Into the Wild training course were dedicated to exploring participants’ inner wildness and concluding the project.

On 2 July, participants were introduced to the concept of Vipassana meditation and encouraged to spend a day in complete silence. They were given different questions and practices to apply to their meditation every hour. Thus, participants spent ten hours delving deeper into their inner selves and learning about their own ‘wilderness’.

3 July was the last day of the project. We began with a reflection on the entire training course programme and discussed what each participant had done for the first time during the week in Mrachenik. Afterwards, participants were invited to spend some time outside the youth centre and find an item to represent their experience so far.

Part of the day was dedicated to discussing Youthpass and the further opportunities available to young people within and outside the Erasmus+ network.

After dinner, once everyone had finished packing their luggage for the journey home, the closing ceremony began. All those connected to Smokinya and the Bright Future Youth Centre were invited to attend the first part of the ceremony. This was an opportunity to express gratitude to everyone who had worked on the training course and been involved in the activities conducted in Mrachenik during the previous week.

On behalf of the Smokinya Foundation, Tisho, the organisation’s director, gifted everyone a mug with the course title and the Smokinya logo on it. After that, we turned on the music and invited everyone to join our little disco party. Participants, volunteers, team members and kitchen staff all danced without stopping for a good hour.

Once the closing ceremony had finished, the Into the Wild participants were encouraged to take some time to think about anything they would like to leave behind after the project ended. After writing their responses on pieces of paper, they threw them into the fire as a metaphoric gesture of letting go of their burdens. We closed the training course around the fire by the sounds of the burning bricks and raindrops pounding on the school’s roof.
