Into the Wild – the third course of the Smokinya trilogy – started yesterday, on 26 June. Unlike the previous two projects, which were held in Plovdiv, participants were invited to join us at Smokinya’s youth centre in the village of Mrachenik this time.

The hotel’s living room was replaced by the schoolyard, the rooms by tents, and the sounds of the city by the sounds of birds, the wind passing through the leaves and the crackling of the campfire.

The course began with an introduction to the local area and a discussion on topics related to the main concept of the training. We explored the surrounding hills and got to know each other better.

After that, three participants who had taken part in previous projects in the trilogy conducted an activity based on the theory they had learnt in the first two phases. This gave us an opportunity to learn communication techniques and apply this knowledge immediately.

In the afternoon, participants were invited to take their first steps into the wild by spending some time fully on their own, exploring the Bulgarian nature and taking time to reflect on the goals they might achieve during the training course.

We ended the day around the fireplace, where participants were encouraged to disconnect completely from the digital world and leave their gadgets behind until the end of the course.
