Smokinya Foundation contributes in creating a world that works for everyone, out of love, care and cooperation — and that includes the quiet strength of rural places.
Rurality is an Erasmus+ project that brings this vision to life. Its core aim is simple and powerful: to strengthen rural communities by developing practical skills, fostering inclusion and active participation among young people, and promoting sustainable local development through non-formal education and European cooperation.
In Mrachenik we are already turning an old school into a living centre for learning and volunteering, where projects like Rurality create space for young people to grow. Participants explore real rural challenges and opportunities, exchange ideas across borders, and leave with tools they can use at home — whether that means supporting local initiatives, building more inclusive communities, or simply discovering what they are capable of when they step outside the city.
Our approach is experiential, hands-on, and focused on the person. No lectures for the sake of lectures. Instead, real work, real conversations, real growth. Young people with fewer opportunities, those at a life transition, and anyone ready to commit to their own development are especially welcome.
Rurality continues the path we have been walking of reconnecting people with nature, community and each other. Because rural areas are not the past. They are part of a living, evolving future that needs the energy, creativity and care of the next generation.

Creating a world that works for everyone — one rural step at a time
This is an unusual project.
- It will take full attention and participation.
- This is not “just another Erasmus+ free travel vacation”!
- This training course involves:
- camping style accommodation,
- low comforts (shared simple showers, shared tents, shared simple squatting toilets),
- experiencing yourself and others naturally’
- outdoor activities, hikes, camping,
- open end challenges and much more!

This is learning program funded by Erasmus+ programme.
That requires commitment. You will be asked to organise a follow-up activity after the program.
The program is intensive and challenging.
The program does NOT include cultural and touristic sightseeing.
