Day 8

The last day of RESET was dedicated to close the program. First, the paperwork, followed by sharing the future opportunities of Smokinya Foundation and partners.
We also presented YouthPass, what is it and how to fill it. As well as the Erasmus+ project policy and priorities : Project green practices, EU youth goals, Virtual components and/or digital technology, Participation in democratic life.
After lunch the moment came to express gratitude, to the s.o.l.e groups, the buddies and the rest of the group, using the Cin Cin Ciao method.
A very emotional and lovely day for the group.

Reset Complete

Each participant went through their own Hero’s Journey. Starting by hearing about the project, reading the info pack and answering the call by applying. They dived into the project by disconnecting the day of their arrival, already a big challenge for some. The physical connection we have to our devices; especially our phones could be compared to that of an organ: Never in time has an object been carried around; attached to us; the way that our phones have for the last 20 years.
When we wake in the morning an instinct for many of us is to reach for our phone; whether its to shut off an alarm, check the time, scroll through our notifications, its the same instinct that tells our lungs to breath. An automatic action taking little thought but creating an impact in our living. Without our external organ many of us felt restless; something is missing and there is an itch to have order restored.

The first day started at 7am with a workout, WHAT?!. This proposition aimed to give the opportunity to disrupt old habits, moving and waking up the body before anything else. It was a great way to set our day up right and felt way better than rolling over in bed to see who posted what on instagram. Workout done, breakfast time, the hotels restaurant was transformed into a space of laughter and conversation: On the first evening many of us had sat for dinner and were checking or phone; looking things up; sharing pictures; now in this space we were entirely present with one another.

« Next meeting at 3pm », WHAT?!. Yes in RESET time and space were offered to the participants to experience life without digital devices, create their own activities and get entertained or bored when wanted. The ways this time was spent changed day to day. There was a perfect opportunity to be bored and pace laps to pass the time but as there was a whole group of people with hobbies and ideas we managed to have something going on every morning. Breathing exercises; art workshops, games, long walks into town, crocheting/ knitting, yoga, reading groups, the time we first thought to be wasted was filled with excitement created by us.

Everyday, three things were proposed, one video, one poem and one story related with the topic of the day. Going from the « stop it! » comedy sketch from Bob Newhart to « the pale blue dot » from Carl Sagan.

Tools and models were presented and experienced. Some of them aimed to support individual reflections, to raise awareness of our own automatisms, thoughts and patterns, to embody our beliefs and vision. The variety of processes and methods was maximized to give the opportunity to everyone to find what fits to them.
