During my first month in Plovdiv, our youth worker, Meri, told me that time passes much faster in Bulgaria than anywhere else. At first I didn’t believe her, but now I understand. I’ve been living here for more than half a year. And I’m in the middle of my project.

I came to Bulgaria with certain expectations, fears and hopes. Some of them have been fulfilled, some of them have turned out to be completely different in reality. But in general, I’m very happy that Smokinya chose me and I chose Smokinya. Looking back now, I can say with absolute confidence that this step was the only right one, one of the most important in my life.

Without a doubt, I’ve done a lot. It was my first time abroad and I think I adapted very well. I spent a month in Mrachenik, a very small village in the middle of Bulgaria. Sleeping in tents, spending every day with 45 people from 18 different countries, hiking every week – it’s something I couldn’t have imagined before.

Then, with great support from our volunteers, I made a film about the Bright Future project. It was an invaluable experience – I’ve never done anything like it before. And I’m very proud of my work. It is now the most popular video on our YouTube channel! (You can watch it here if you haven’t seen it yet).

Personally, I have become much stronger and more confident. Many of my soft skills have gradually improved. I’m now completely sure that I can coordinate and work in a diverse international group. This makes me believe that I’ll be ready for any changes that await me after the end of the project.

And, of course, I have met amazing people here. The Smokinya team is a friendly and supportive community. Everyone is unique, which makes us appreciate and value each other. And Plovdiv, a cosy and vibrant city, gives us the opportunity to spend our weekends exploring new places and returning to our favourite ones.

I have high hopes for the rest of my project. Spring is going to be amazing here and many new initiatives are planned. Let’s stay in touch and make every month better than the previous one 😊
