Hey people, for those who don’t know me, I’m Brahim, a volunteer at Smokinya foundation since 7 months now. Wow, I feel like I arrived yesterday, this for sure was an intense 2023.
When I think about my experience here, the first thing that comes to my mind is “improvement”. I challenge myself a lot here, I tried new things and got out of my comfort zone, the younger me would be very proud 😄
I spent the first month in Mrachenik, a little village of 60 inhabitants close to the mountains. What better way to start my volunteering than breathing Balkan fresh air and rebuilding an abandoned school?
I met a lot of international volunteers there and we worked together as a family, unforgettable experience.
Then I arrived in Plovdiv!
Till now I pushed myself to engage in many activities, Worked in an amazing team of capable people, wrote Erasmus+ projects, organized and facilitated educational and fun events, realizing the potential I always had, to lead and bring impact wherever I put my focus.
I found friends and met interesting locals, special mention to my barber and to the owner of an antique store in the old town, a lot of history there.
As for the friends, I’m happy that I met the other volunteers which I’ve worked and lived with during this time, also the ones that left and the ones that just arrived. It’s truly an amazing experience.
I have to thank Smokinya a lot. I didn’t believe that I could become the person I am today. My goal for the rest of my time here is to prepare myself for what comes after, to be ready to catch the opportunities that will appear and to create a brighter future. ✨
