‘Disconnect to Reconnect’ is the result of weeks of work of Carlos, one of our European Solidarity Corps (ESC) long-term volunteers. As stated in the ESC regulations, each long-term volunteer is suposed to develop what’s called ‘personal project‘. The topic of the project is chosen by the volunteers themselves, although it’s usually related to the scope of their project or organization. This way, the personal project is an open window where any type of project can fit in: an artistic work, an event, a booklet…
In this case, Carlos joined Smokinya in March within the framework of Rural Future, a project on rural revitalisation in Mrachenik. During his time in this remote village of rural Bulgaria, he discovered new ways to spend his free time as an alternative to social media and scrolling. These discoveries had such an impact on him that decided to share them with the world and make it his personal project.
