It’s hard to believe that almost three months have already passed since I arrived in Bulgaria at the beginning of January. Time has flown by so quickly that I barely realized I was already halfway through my program! ⏳
This experience has been nothing short of amazing and I am incredibly grateful to have been chosen to be part of it. 💙
Throughout this journey, I have learned so much, starting with some basic Bulgarian 🇧🇬, which has helped me connect with the local culture.
I’ve also had the opportunity to travel around the country, visiting places like Sofia, Asenovgrad and Kardzhali while being based in the beautiful city of Plovdiv. 🏡
Each place has offered unique experiences and helped me understand more of Bulgaria’s history and traditions. 📖
One of the most exciting aspects of my time here has been working on my personal project. Inspired by the name “Smokinya,” which means “fig” in Bulgarian, I decided to create a cookbook 📚 that celebrates the rich culinary traditions of Europe. 🍽️
This cookbook will highlight the versatility of figs, incorporating them into recipes in various ways—whether whole, in a sauce or as a key ingredient in a dish. Over the course of 52 weeks, I aim to explore unique flavors and cultural stories, hoping to inspire others to bring these delicious creations into their own kitchens. 🍇
On a personal level, I have grown immensely. I feel stronger, more confident and have developed essential soft skills that will benefit me in the future. Coordinating and collaborating with a diverse international group has reinforced my belief that I can adapt to any challenge that comes my way after this project. 💪🌎
Beyond the professional and personal growth, the people I’ve met here have truly made this experience special. ❤️
The Smokinya team is a warm, supportive and inspiring community. Each individual brings something unique to the table, creating an environment where we learn from and appreciate one another. 🤗
And, of course, Plovdiv itself has been a wonderful place to call home—vibrant yet cozy, offering countless opportunities to explore and create lasting memories. 🏞️
Looking ahead, I am filled with excitement for the remainder of my program. 🌸
It’s almost April and spring is already in full swing! I know that even more adventures and initiatives await. 🚀
I can’t wait to make the most of every moment, embrace new experiences and continue growing. 😊
