Daily recapt 1/09
Monday started a new week here in Mrachenik. This one is special because everyone had their phones taken away the day before to start Disconnection Week. No alarms, just waking up to the sound of roosters and getting ready to work.
All the volunteers had different tasks to help out in the village. Some volunteers helped pull out weeds from different streets, while others helped clean part of the river and the surrounding paths. Because of this, a local woman invited some of our volunteers for breakfast, creating an opportunity to make connections and learn from each other. At the school, a group of participants continued building wooden benches.
After long hours of work, everyone had dinner and then had a well-deserved rest. This week, Cultural Nights have also started. Yesterday, we had the opportunity to learn more about Italy and Armenia. The representatives of each country talked about their traditions and heritage. We played a quiz to see how much we already knew about the countries, and we also got to taste sweets and coffee from Armenia.
Cultural Nights will take place every evening this week, with Spain and Lebanon on the schedule for today. So stay tuned for more updates!

Wednesday was another day of work, during which we continued our efforts, pulling weeds and restoring the wood. The results are becoming apparent little by little as the workdays go by.
However, we also have some less positive news. Some volunteers began to show signs of illness, and the best thing they could do was rest their bodies and minds so they could recharge their energy and return to physical work with renewed strength. Those who were feeling well took care of the volunteers and took steps to prevent the spread and worsening of the virus that has decided to visit our village. They created new schedules for the cleaning and kitchen teams and set up a space for all of us to rest safely. Despite the social distancing measures, I believe this challenge will bring us closer together as a community and strengthen our work.
So, the afternoon was spent recovering, and tomorrow will be a day of rest. We’ll be back soon with more updates!
