Rural Future – Nature, Community, Education | Weekly Recap 13

Hello!

For six months, three young volunteers will live in a remote village working to rebuild a school and learn more about and connect with the rural life and people. The project, called Rural Future, is co-funded by the EU through the ESC programme.

🛠️ If you like what you see, you can apply here.

ℹ️ You can get to know the project better here.

During the Rural Future Project, we are going to cover the weekly progress through the so-called “Weekly Recaps”. Here we will give a short overview of what is going on in this little village called Mrachenik and will report on our experiences.

Our Mrachenik volunteer team is made up of three people: Leó, Mirthe, and Carlos. We all have different backgrounds and our ages span from 21-27 years.
As part of Smokinya Foundation, we work with the Plovdiv Smokinya team as well.
You will see mixing and exchange between the two teams during our stay in Bulgaria.

Hello again from rural Bulgaria!

This week has been also very busy in Mrachenik. For some of our volunteers, the day started as early as 5 am for their side job as rose pickers!

Hey! Don’t miss the rose picking experience. You can live it by yourself with us by applying here.

But, coming back to Smokinya projects, the focus was on the bathrooms of the school. They are gonna be refurbished, so the first step was to tear down the old, heavy walls in between toilets. For that task, the team gave all their strength, but results finally came:

Meanwhile, outside, the gardening work never stops! For example, this week, we had time to remove the grass in the street in front of Smokinya’s House and our Training Center. Here, our girls did a great job:

But inside the school there was also as much gardening to do as you want. This week, they prioritised the area next to the kitchen:

And last, but not least, the wall of the Training Center got some painture! If you remember, some weeks before, the team repaired the wall, and now it was time to finish the work with some painture:

That’s all so far! Hope to meeet you next week!
