Hello!
For six months, four young volunteers will live in a remote village working to rebuild a school and learn more about and connect with the rural life and people. The project, called Rural Future, is co-funded by the EU through the ESC programme.
Here you can get to know the project better:

During the Rural Future Project, we are going to cover the weekly progress through the so-called “Weekly Recaps”. Here we will give a short overview of what is going on in this little village called Mrachenik and will report on our experiences.
Our Mrachenik volunteer team is made up of three people: Leó, Mirthe, and Carlos. We all have different backgrounds and our ages span from 21-27 years.
As part of Smokinya Foundation, we work with the Plovdiv Smokinya team as well.
You will see mixing and exchange between the two teams during our stay in Bulgaria.
Last week it was a busy week in Mrachenik!
The week started with a focus on the garden of the volunteer’s house. After some rainy weeks, the grass had grown a lot everywhere. That’s why they decided it was time to remove the excess of it and make it a nice place to spend time and lay on the ground.
But that’s not all. They still had time to plant new vegetables, including carrots and tomatoes. That adds up to the already existing vegetables in their garden, such as potatoes or onion.
The days are starting to get hot in Mrachenik. That’s why the guys combined the gardening with some indoor work during the hottest hours of the day. This time, the priority was the workshop of our school. They organized the room so that it’s easy to find any tool you might need, from a shovel to a paint brush.
For that purpose, they first collected all the tools from different places and gathered them together in the workshop. Then, they sorted them out and stored in shelves.
Finally, the week ended with a clean-up event for the Mrachenik village. The team invited villagers to this event posting posters in the streets and also in social media. Check out the result:
And, of course, check our great team doing their best to keep their beloved village a tidy place:
Stay tuned for next week!
