For six months, four young volunteers will live in a remote village working to rebuild a school and learn more about and connect with the rural life and people. The project, called Rural Future, is co-funded by the EU through the ESC programme.

Rural Future – Nature, Community, Education – ESC Volunteering Project
During the Rural Future Project, we are going to cover the weekly progress through the so-called “Weekly Recaps”. Here we will give a short overview of what is going on in this little village called Mrachenik and will report on our experiences.
Our Mrachenik volunteer team is made up of four people: Leó, Mirthe, Carlos and Hendrik.
We all have different backgrounds and our ages span from 21-27 years.
As part of Smokinya Foundation, we work with the Plovdiv Smokinya team as well.
You will see mixing and exchange between the two teams during our stay in Bulgaria.
This week we worked at the school and used a drill machine, wall grinder and other technical equipment to install new electric cables on the first and second floor. Quite some hard work!
Additionally, we dug out more dirt from the excavated tree roots, so that we can rebuild the wall properly in the coming weeks. Last, but not least we worked on the wall of the educational and cultural space; making lime and applying it to the wall. More physical labour, keep it coming!
