This week in Mrachenik, our team had a fantastic time making progress in both outdoor projects and learning experiences. We planted a pine tree and got busy in the garden, growing onions and lettuce.
On top of that, we tackled some seriously stubborn tree roots with a chainsaw and pickaxes and cleared out pesky weeds to keep our garden looking great. To help things grow better, we set up a composting area to recycle waste.
We also spent some time burning a piles of hay and wood to keep our garden tidy. Of course, our week wouldn’t be complete without our Bulgarian language lesson with our amazing mentor, Yana, where we learned some handy tool-related words.
In addition, we cooked a delicious Bulgarian soup and baked a very tasty cake together.
Looking ahead, we’re excited to keep working on our garden and can’t wait to enjoy fresh eggs from our very own chickens soon!
Reflecting on the past month, it’s incredible to see how far we’ve come since the Rural Future project kicked off. Not only have we refurbished the educational and cultural space near our house and settled into rural life, but also mixed with locals and enjoyed some traditional Bulgarian food as well!
It has been a very rewarding experience so far and we are confident that this is just the beginning.
Stay tuned for more updates on our progress next week!
