“EntrepreneurSHIP – Grab on your wave” – Meet new volunteer Svitlana

fullimagename

Hi everyone! My name is Svitlana Skruibys, I am 22 years old, I am from western Ukrainian city – Ternopil. Even though my city is not big, it is famous for being the youth capital of Ukraine, as we have a lot of universities, colleges and youth organizations.
I came to Plovdiv to spend a whole year as a volunteer at the Smokinya Foundation.
So what brought me here? I want to work in the international environment where I can learn more about other cultures, people and traditions and at the same time get people more acquainted with Ukrainian culture. I think such opportunities are a great tool to make people around the world more united and cooperated.

So now I want to tell you a little more about myself and my background. I just got my Master’s degree in International Economic Relations, and arrived here to continue my journey of self-development, upgrading my skills and making some impact together with the Smokinya Foundation. During my studies I always was looking for every available opportunity. For the first two years of my university life I was an active participant of the international youth organization AIESEC, where I had a great opportunity to learn some core soft skills, make a lot of international friends and learn how to work in the multinational environment. I also took part in AIESEC Global Volunteer exchange and spent two months in Istanbul, Turkey where I was part of the project which was dedicated to SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals).

After that I took part in Erasmus+ exchange program where for half of the year I had an opportunity to study Digital Marketing in the Inholland university in Alkmaar, the Netherlands. It was my longest experience of living abroad yet. I tried myself in living in one of the most interesting cultures and environments and I am happy to stay in touch with my Dutch friends and classmates. We had a lot of interesting and informative classes and projects where I obtained new skills and knowledges in the marketing field. In the summer of 2021 I took part in a short term European Solidarity Corps project which was held in Ankara, Turkey. I worked with refugee teens and kids and learned more about the problems and challenges of Turkish people.

And now I am here in Plovdiv! My goal here is to spend this year in a way which would benefit me and people around. I am very excited to work with such a wonderful team and in such a creative, supportive and motivated environment. It’s just my second day here but I’m already in love with Bulgarian culture, Plovdiv and people here.

And last but not least I am sure I will learn something from every member of the Smokinya Foundation team. I always tell that the most important part of every project are people and I am definitely a lucky person that I get a chance to meet such inspiring mates. I feel very optimistic about what is waiting ahead of us! 🙂
